The Truth of Desires

Human & Desires

Human beings have a long history since the creation of Hazrat Adam. The seed of desire had also been implanted in him. So, primarily it is an undeniable fact that humans have desires since birth. But the burning question is that can it be controlled? It has been seen that desires can be suppressed, How to do so, is another discourse. The term desire is so common that we tend to ignore its significance and impact on our lives.  It's human nature that we fail to notice familiar things. Merely, take a lucid view of your surroundings you will see that the flower of prosperity resides in the seed of observing the common things. The lesson I took from the novel "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho is that wisdom is a resident of the observer. Everything around us has a particular pattern, like nature depicts the prominent ones, we are blinded to observe it due to the dominance of our desires.

Let's dive into the depth of this course and travel around the universe to observe this pattern, if you orient yourself towards the East with your heads up in the sky at 8 pm, you will surely see the brightest blazing star in the sky, that's Jupiter- a planet with red rings in it. In the same manner, at the time of Fajar Prayer you will surely see another star in the same place, which is called Venue, the second planet of our solar system - often called as sister planet of the Earth. One can also see a pink sky at the time of the descending sun, does it cross your mind why it turned pink then? The reply is, because of scientific reasons, more sun rays pass through the water droplets which causes a minimal effect of the rainbow consequently resulting in the dominance of pink color. Let's not go so far, how much do you know about a friend you see every day?  If I ask you to figure out the good and bad habits of you, what will you say- I think you will pause to figure out what they are. It is said by a famous writer, "If you don't answer a question in 5 seconds the reply would be I don't know." Therefore, do you all fall into this category? Contemplate the question and reply with veracity.

Man has a lot of desire; one is called the desire for power. History is repeated with man bloody wars for the lust for power. If desire is beyond the boundary of humanity, it will lose its essence. It is necessary to have desires but to control your desires is the main exam in life. Allah has given man the way of right and wrong. It is the free will of man to choose whatever way he wants. Excessive desires of man can lead him to choose the wrong way because to fulfill his desire he can't be able to differentiate between right and wrong, he will become the slave of his desires. I have listened lot of stories of people justifying themselves after committing evil deeds, as a compulsion of their circumstances. To restrain yourself from committing something evil when you have the authority to do it is called patience. And Allah will give only the reward of it.

What does the religion say about our desires? What are the orders given to us by the almighty lord, let delve into this matter and dive into the water of wisdom, As Allah said in the Holy Quran, Surely the Quran is the book of wisdom. Islam has permitted men to fulfill their desires but within a delimitation, we are aware that a human is a social animal if he is not bound by religion, he will surely cause catastrophe on earth. Well, that is what human is, one example I will put forth and consider a sensitive matter in Pakistan is talking about the sexual desires of man and women, which should be filled just as a basic need of life, but none before marriage without acquiring any substitute of it. Why it is prohibited to use a substitute, in my contemplation, millions of cells are released in a fraction of a second when someone ejaculates sperm during masturbation. These things have a profound impact on our health and brain thinking power. These topics are considered erogenous, and people are too shy to discuss them openly. No doubt it can't be discussed openly. But ponder that weren't these matters discussed in the time of the Holy Prophet? I am sure that it was hashed out then and might be not openly but at least awareness was given to people regarding it. One can ask this question, how to get what has been lost, Male has sex hormones called testosterones mainly responsible for their fertility, and consumption of onion on a daily basis can increase the quantity of it. Also follow a healthy diet consisting of milk, bananas, and other fruits, and try to avoid eating fast food, according to scientific research it can decrease the quantity of testosterone to 25 percent after an hour of ingestion. Another question can also arise in mind that ancient people have retentive memory. Why has our memory power decreased drastically? According to the book Homo Sapiens, a brief history of Mankind Human evolution has caused a decrease in the size of the human brain, consequently resulting in the minifying of our memory.

In culminating point, I would like to say desires have a profound impact on human life. One must have the desire and ardent thirst to learn new things because a case study by an American institute has said that using your brain and giving it more challenging tasks can reduce the dementia factor in people.  Desires can lead to both good and bad ways, but the key to choose whatever way you want is in your hands. The desire of the unattained has always remained a prominent figure in the life of man. One shouldn't become the slave of his desire; he should fight the inner devil which conspires his mind to choose the wrong way. We should avoid choosing evil deeds to attain the pinnacle of success and surely a bright heaven is awaiting us in the afterlife.
